LAS VEGAS, NV – Representative Ruben J. Kihuen issued the statement below following the announcement by the Congressional Budget Office scoring the Republican American Health Care Act:

“The Republican proposal is just a massive tax cut for the wealthy disguised as healthcare reform. This so-called ‘plan’ is a direct attack on older Americans, effectively placing a heavy tax on getting older. Republicans should be working to improve on the Affordable Care Act to make health insurance cheaper and more robust for everyone.”

On Background:

Rep. Kihuen voiced serious concerns over the impact on Medicaid funding and access following the introduction of health care legislation by House Republican’s, offering an amendment to protect Medicaid beneficiaries. Late last week, Rep. Kihuen spoke about the importance of defending Medicaid on the House floor in response to the American Health Care Act,  video can be found here. According to the Congressional Budget Office, a 64-year-old making $26,500 would face an eye-popping $14,600 in premiums per year, as opposed to $1,700 under the Affordable Care Act.
